Inventory Update – Original Cobblestones August 2020
There are numerous streets in and around Boston that have their original cobblestone surface paved over with asphalt. Most of these roadways today are in a state of disrepair in need of total resurfacing.
Recently, we encountered one such street that had been originally paved with the old riverbed stones that probably came to this country from Europe sometime in the early – mid 1800’s as ballast for that ship.
These colorful riverbed stones were harvested from riverbeds and streams in Europe many centuries prior to our quarrying of more conventional size and shaped granite cobblestones.
We were able to reclaim a small quantity of these beautiful riverbed stones that can be used in many applications — Just use your imagination.
