Reclaimed Granite Products – Inventory Update – July 2017
Beverly Cobblestones
Planned in 1851 with construction completed in 1852, Rantoul Street was born. Running parallel with Cabot Street, this was a major thoroughfare for residents and businesses alike.
Based on the amount of surface wear to the cobblestone tops, we believe these “Pieces of History” date back to the mid to late 1800s. Sometime ago… perhaps in the 1940s, all of Rantoul Street had been treated with a fresh coat of asphalt. In most cases, the cobblestones in the roadway were simply paved over with asphalt. In fact, 19th century cobblestones were generally considered as an excellent base material for 20th century roadways. Sometimes, as was the case with Rantoul Street, the wear and settling of the pavement necessitates total road reconstruction as the lasting treatment.
Once again, Olde New England Granite was at the right place and at the right time to rescue, reclaim and repurpose these aged and weathered beauties.
These “Beverly’s” are colorful and very well worn. They measure 4″-5″ wide x 4″-5″ depth x 7″-10″ long. Their average weight is 17 lbs. We offer bulk order discounts.
These and many other products are in stock and on dis play at our Granite Superstore. We hope to hear from you or see you soon.
