Water Street Bridge Granite Reclamation Project

Olde New England Granite’s most recent reclamation project was quite conveniently less than a mile from our Wakefield “Granite Gallery.” The Water Street Bridge Replacement Project finally received the necessary funding to replace the existing 100-year-old “granite pillar bridge” with a new reinforced concrete boxed culvert.

It was these “pillars” that Olde New England Granite rescued from the crusher and has begun repurposing. It was pretty clear that the specifications for the pillars were relatively loose, judging by the variety of sizes and shapes of these “so called” pillars. Two of the most common characteristics are:

  1. Most of the pieces are in fact beautiful green Rockport granite from the famous Bay View Quarry on Cape Ann
  2. Much of this old quarry granite can be use as antique step material

Other uses and applications of this material:

  • Landscape/hardscape – hillside retention pieces to create planting pockets and/or stairways to traverse a slope
  • Unique pieces to use as bookends for your wall project
  • Some of these are terrific monument pieces for uses such as driveway entry pieces, light posts, and landscape focal pieces
  • Cluster of monuments together for the Stonehenge look
  • And many other applications… just use your imagination

These and many other products are in stock and on display at our Granite Superstore. We hope to hear from you or see you soon.
